assignment 2 Task Three - Research for production

the equipment i will need are as followed.The equipment I will need are as followed:

Video camera
http://www.hireacamera.com/camcorders/detail.asp?model=21
The video camera I have picked is the Sony dcr-trv480e
This camera will work well with my group and me because out of all the camcorders this one was the cheapest. As we could hire it for a day for £35.00 but we are going to hire it for a week as it only cost £66.67 if we was going to hire it for 4-5 days it will cost a lot more if you hire it daily then hire it for a week. The daily vat costs £42.00 and the weekly vat costs £80.00. The deposit of this camera is £50.00. This may seem a lot but this is the cheapest camera out of all of the ones shown on the website.
The Sony DCR-TRV480E will be supplied in a flight case with the following -

•    1 x Manual
•    1 x Composite Lead
•    1 x Mains Lead
•    1 x Mains Adaptor
•    1 x Cleaning Cassette
•    1 x Strap
•    1 x Lens Cap

The tripod that was recommended for the camera, which was chosen by me, is the fluid tripod the daily price of this is £8.33 and the weekly price is £34.17.

We also are getting 4-4 pin fire wire cable so we are able to upload the footage onto the computer. the prices of daily and weekly are the same £3.33

the tripod and the cable can be found in the accessories part of the camera

the location on where we are going to be filming is going to be at a park where we are going to use some of the trees for part of our advert and we will be using a class room for the news place.
the park location will be central park as it has a open area which will be good for what we need as well will need a place to start running at a point in our advert and we will need easy low trees to use.
central park at the moment for water work so we may have to move to the chase which has more trees. this will be ok but may cause problems as their is not much area to get part of our advert in for the full effect.
we will hire people to act out people from the different people from the games. so we will need costumes to make the people look like them. for example for Connor from assassins creed we will just really need a hood that will cover their face also it will need to be white. we could use some fake blood for the zombies (which depends on how much of the face of the zombie we show) that will be near the end of the advert.we need a blue shirt and maybe some blue jeans for steve from minecraft. and we could get a mask for batman and a black cape. but we could just have the mask for batman

assignment 2 Task Two - Ideas Generation

the orange box consist of 3 games half life 2, team fortress 2 and portal.
these games people enjoyed as they would last quite some time and portal would make your brain think a lot as it was a puzzle type game team fortress 2 was a online game where you can play with many people online.
this is what we will be doing our idea on we are taking the idea of having different games on one disc but we are changing the games round to games which are more up to date.
we took in many ideas for this game box but some of our ideas had to removed from our final idea
some of these for games was:
assassins creed, resident evil, batman, minecraft, skyrim, call of duty.
we later removed call of duty as it had guns in it as they was not aloud to be in our advert so we removed it so we are going to use these games.

assassins creed

resident evil

batman

minecraft

These games have been round for a while now and they seemed to be the most played games so we thought would be a good idea to have these games in our game box. we settled on 5 games tops as you really don't want too many games to be in the game box as it would cost a lot of money to get the games on the box in the first place.
we first thought of what colour we could have for our box because we couldn't keep it the same as the orange box.
we are going to change the colour to the purple box as purple can be a mixed like colour for both genders.
the age range of this would be 15+ because some of the game does have violence which would not be suitable for younger ages but some will have passwords for parents to stop their kids for playing certain games e.g. resident evil as it has a lot of blood and people dyeing. also most of theses games are about the age ratting of 15+

Assignment 2 Task One – Market and Target Audience Research

in this blog i will be talking about the ways of researching

We used different ways to find out what we are going to do for our advert
We made a survey with these questions
What games would you like to see on the game box?
Resident evil=5
Skyrim=3
Minecraft=6
Batman=4
Assassin’s creed=7
Other=5
What could the age range be for the game box?
Most people said above 15 so we put it as 15+
What would the main focus of gender be?
We settled on focusing on both
How many games would you like to see on the game box?
1-3=13
4-6=15
7-9= 2
would you like a DLC in the game box?
Yes=27
No=3
If you said yes to the DLC would it be good if it was pong?
Yes=18
No=12
we asked these question to a focus group and here are a few of the people we asked

Marketing

assassin's creed 3

The assassin's creed is a great game to add to the game box as many people play it and enjoy the story line the advert is an animation but it makes it look quick and fast and then slows the shot down when he kills a person. the assassin's creed

Batman

batman would be a good one to add as many people know who he is and it was a very good game to involved in the game box as many people have heard of the game and would want to play it. the game looks life like sometimes or like the film.
Resident evil 6

resident evil we thought that we would leave at the end as a way of ending the advert because of the zombie innovation. the game is a very good series of games which is based on a terrorist attack but umbrella and survivors try and find a way of stopping it.

Minecraft

minecraft would be a great game to add as many people are able to play and as the xbox have created their own version so i thought it would be a good idea to introduce it to the ps3. many people play the game so they might get the game box for such a massive game.

Task 7– Sources of Information in Advertising

Before a company can start to produce a advert they must find out what makes the advert suitable to their audience
for example you can see the london part of the itv 1 rate card shows that if u wanted to show your advert advert when coronation street is on it will cost £14,872. you would want to look at this because if you have a budget of how much money you can use for where you are going to put your advert you would have to look at different time placements and see how much they cost. for example if you was allowed £10,000 then you would be able to put your adverts in london in daytime- this morning early evening news and late night movie.

advertisers’ information packs

New to TV- this shows to someone who is making a advert what sort of questions they should be asking themselves. more information in the PDF

On air specs and delivery- these are what you need to meet the requirements of a channel for your advert

 Online specs and delivery-

Advance booking deadlines- you need to get your advert made in a deadline.

Regional offices- these are the details of who u can contact for your advert

FAQ's- these are questions u should be able to answer about the advert your making.

Task 6– Audience Information

there are lots of factors determine when and where adverts are broadcast on british television
these key factors are
-the most suitable time of day
-the most appropriate programmes
-the cost
so how to advertisers gather the information they need?
the most important source of information for advertising if barb- the broadcast 'audience research board'
it is responsible for providing information such as
the most watched channels and programmes
what time most people are watching
they type of people who are viewing at any one time
barb use something called an audience management  panel

where you can find information on t.v rating and why is it important?
you will be able to find out information on the programme planning tool this is very useful as it tells you how many people watch diffrent programs and at different times.
what a programme profile is and why is it useful?
a programme profile is a document that you would get if you are a advertiser telling you what a advert should have in it
what a rate card is and why is it useful?
a rate card a rate card is a document containing prices and descriptions for the various ad placement options available from a media outlet

every bored caster will have a adversities information pack essential for advertising - gives all infomation about tentacle information about rule and regulation of each channel

look on itv website and place t.v rating on here

programme planning tool
''The tool allows you to search future programmes and plan your campaign. You can filter your search by month, channel, daypart, genre, target audience or all of these – using the drop down menus.
Your search results will reveal a list of programmes that match your criteria. You can access an overview of any programme by clicking on the programme name. Simply select the programmes that interest you and identify which campaign you want them added to. Remember though that programmes will only be available three months in advance of the booking deadline.'' from http://www.itvmedia.co.uk/assets/itvmedia/content/downloadables//programme_planner_guide.pdf

Task 5 ways of research

why do companies spend so much money on research?

  • media product expensive to produce.
  • need to make sure that it will attract the right audience
  • to make sure the audience react to it in the right way
  • to ensure the product can be complete in the right way
  • to produce product within budget
Types of research

  • audience research- Who?
  • market research- what?
  • production research- how?
audience research

  • who is the audience?
  • where do they live?
  • what do they do for a living?
  • what do they watch and when do that watch it?
  • what are things are they interested in?
Market research

  • it is important to understand the market within which the product will compete with other product that.
  • competion-existing product.
  • audience awareness of media product
  • attitudencs towards products and services and pattern of behaviour
product research
  • production research is directly related to the production of the media product (in our case the advert)
  • assess viability
  • plan production logistics (staff, location, licenses, equipment)
four main methods of research
  • primary - research that you do it yourself
  • secondary- someone else's research
  • quantitative- numbers
  • qualitative- written
primary
primary could be useful as it is your own research so you know what you are looking for
bad point is that some other people might be able to get more information then you as they might know people can can give them information.
- original data
-specific data

secondary
this could be helpful as you might be able to find information that you would not be able to find yourself. another good point about this is that it
-uses someone else's research.
-can be used alongside other primary source

quantitative
-can be shown in numbers
-graphs and charts
-measurable

qualitative
-helps find out the way people feel
-can't really be measured.

T4- Regulation

Advertising Standards Authority ( ASA)
the asa is the UK regulator of adverts.''work includes acting on complaints and proactively checking the media to take action against misleading, harmful or offensive advertisements''
http://www.asa.org.uk/About-ASA.aspx

’'The Advertising Standards Authority is the UK’s independent regulator of advertising across all media.
The types of ads we deal with include:

  • Magazine and newspaper advertisements
  • Radio and TV commercials (not programmes or programme sponsorship)
  • Television Shopping Channels
  • Advertisements on the Internet, including:
    • banner and display ads
    • paid-for (sponsored) search
    • Marketing on companies’ own websites and in other space they control like social networking sites Twitter and Facebook
  • Commercial e-mail and SMS text message ads
  • Posters on legitimate poster sites (not fly posters)
  • Leaflets and brochures
  • Cinema commercials
  • Direct mail (advertising sent through the post and addressed to you personally)
  • Door drops and circulars (advertising posted through the letter box without your name on)
  • Ads on CD ROMs, DVD and video, and faxes
  • Sales promotions, such as special offers, prize draws and competitions wherever they appear.
this is what they do if you send a complaint
1. First, check whether your complaint is covered by the ASA.  Find out what we cover here, or if you're still not sure, call/textphone us to discuss your complaint.  Our contact details can be found here.
2. If it is, submit your complaint online, or telephone,textphone, or write to us.
3. We’ll give you the name of the person who will handle the case and be your point of contact.
4. The names of those who make a complaint are kept confidential from the advertiser, unless you are asking us to have your name taken off a mailing list or the complaint is from an individual, competitor or organisation with obvious interest in the outcome of the complaint (such as consumer bodies and pressure groups).
5. We can often resolve complaints quickly. For instance, we can have an ad changed if it’s a minor mistake or chase up an undelivered mail order item on your behalf. If it’s not that simple, we may need to conduct a formal investigation, which can take longer.
6. A formal investigation means the ASA Council will rule on the matter. We contact all parties involved (complainant, advertiser and, if appropriate, the broadcaster) and inform them of the process. We ask the advertiser and broadcaster to provide evidence for any claims they make and, if needed, to provide justification about why they thought the ad was appropriate.
7. We consider all the information we receive and place the facts of the case before the ASA Council which decides whether the Advertising Codes have been breached.
8. We publish our rulings in full every Wednesday and make the findings available to the media.
9. Ads that break the rules are required to be amended or withdrawn, if they aren’t, we will take steps to make sure our ruling is followed.
10. We take every step to make sure the process is fair, which is why there is an Independent Review Procedure that allows complainants and advertisers to request a review of a ruling.

An example of this would be the Usain bolt advert for verging media broadband this can be used for both business.
Here is the video for it

ofcom
http://www.ofcom.org.uk/
Ofcom is the communications regulator. We regulate the TV and radio sectors, fixed line telecoms, mobiles, postal services, plus the airwaves over which wireless devices operate.

''Ofcom is the communications regulator. We regulate TV and radio, fixed line telecoms and mobiles, plus the airwaves over which wireless devices operate.''

''What we do
Our main legal duties are to ensure:
  • the UK has a wide range of electronic communications services, including high-speed services such as broadband;
  • a wide range of high-quality television and radio programmes are provided, appealing to a range of tastes and interests;
  • television and radio services are provided by a range of different organisations;
  • people who watch television and listen to the radio are protected from harmful or offensive material;
  • people are protected from being treated unfairly in television and radio programmes, and from having their privacy invaded; and
  • a universal postal service is provided in the UK – this means a six days a week, universally priced delivery and collection service across the country; and
  • the radio spectrum (the airwaves used by everyone from taxi firms and boat owners, to mobile-phone companies and broadcasters) is used in the most effective way.
What we do not do
We are not responsible for regulating:
  • disputes between you and your telecoms provider;
  • premium-rate services, including mobile-phone text services and ringtones;
  • the content of television and radio adverts;
  • complaints about accuracy in BBC programmes;
  • the BBC TV licence fee; or
  • post offices; or
  • newspapers and magazines.''

this is what they do for people and media for advertising.

Task 3 analysing a television advertising in detail

John Lewis never knowing
in this blog i will be writing about this advert for a department store called John lewis and this advert shows nostalgic because of how long john lewis has been around. One side of the camera is of the olden times and the other side present time and the way of how the two people look like they can see each other all the way thought makes it feel normal. For example they are at the cinema and the woman has the old cinema and the man has the new cinema you can tell this because he is wearing 3d glasses. The audience of this is people who are looking for cloths to buy.Mis-en-scene what means whats on screen- they have cut the screen in half making one side olden you can tell this because it is more orangey and the other side more present.This advert is a stand alone advert because there is only one of its kind.This advert has a style of plot driven and dramatic. This advert is aimed towards all ages because the left side is showing all the old styles so like around the 1940's and the right side is showing all the presents styles. The advert provokes a emotional responds because people will be able to relate themselves with them. The advert creates a brand identity because it shows the people who watches the advert that John Lewis is always working hard on new items for his shop. The sound that the advert uses is non-diegetic so we can't hear anything that is happening only the music.

Task 2 unit 30 styles of advertising

STYLES OF ADVERTISING
there are many different styles of advertising and all of them make different people feel in different ways.
here are examples of styles of advertising:

humour

These types of adverts are used to make the viewer laugh so that they will tell other people about the advert and they will watch it and when they see the product they will be tempted even more to buy it because of how the advert made them feel. The example i used was about a product of cheese called panda. The advert is about a panda that goes to people that say not to the product and he gets angry and breaks stuff. This will make the audience happy and it may make the advert catchy or easy to remember

serious

- this will be directed at the audience as it may upset them about what they are talking about. the advert will ether be talking about child abuse woman abuse. they might even be asking for donation for a cause e.g. donating cloths for people or dot water for another country.

dramatic-something that is narrative

- dramatic is mostly used if something is coming out e.g. a game or a movie or a t.v show. this will get the audience impatient and they may watch it over and over again so that they won't forget it. this will also be showing the audience what is going to be happening.

scary/shocking
-this advert will be like a thriller/horror as this advert will try and make the audience seem scared of upset about something e.g. the phone for you advert used a undead girl for their fear as you could tell from the lady hurrying to her car. there could also be adverts which link to serious as this could be talking about child abuse or smoking.

retro
-retro is like using olden stuff e.g. in this advert they use the past and the present to show how long the business has been going on for this gives the viewer a fond of their pass which also shows that its all the good bits of the olden times and none of the bad side

parody-one text making fun of the other

- this will something like if one advert was very popular another advert will take the mic out of it which will catches the audience eye and may make them laugh. people may tell other people about it as it was about a advert they liked. this could also be used on old t.v shows as one advert about spec savers use postman pat as everyone knew who he was and he is shown he has broken his glasses and he tries and do his job but is unable to complete the right things

celebrity based

- this will have a celebrity adverting a product e.g. a perfume or a game or any other product as shown as david Beckham having a spray named after him. this will make people want it as it was used by one of there role models and people would want to be like them as they will think they may (smell the same) as them

sex appeal

- this is used for more of the adults who watch adverts and they will use words to try and catch the watchers eye and this is used to advertising many different things but most perfume or something smilier like it.

Friday, 14 September 2012

T1 forms of television advertising

different forms of advertising are as followed:

animation-this is a advert that is a cartoon

this advert is easy to remember as it is catchy and people will tell everyone and it is about something
so if more and people know about this advert then people will recognise the product and buy it.
bad point about these types of adverts is that people may not take them so seriously and may not think about them so they won't be able to sell their product they are trying to sell.

realistic- this relates to people's life

These types of adverts are good because it makes the viewer want to put themselves in that spot so they will feel they will need the product and want to buy it. Good points of this is people get a idea of what the product is used for or if its any good. bad point is that it is easily forgetful because they don't last that long and people might not find it interesting.

talking heads- is when the company get there public point of view on something.

These types of adverts gets the public to have their say so people will trust it more if they have different views. In the example it gets different football involved people talking in diffrent language to try and stop racism. good point gives opinions of people who use it so people will have a idea of what other people think about it. bad point is that it don't really catch peoples eye if they saw it they might find it uninteresting

none realistic- something that cannot happen in real life

These types of adverts may be random and make no sense and could never happen in real life so they are able to do what they want like in the example have a massive roller coaster around a city. they use this because it will grab the attention of the viewer and they will remember it and tell their friends about it. good point is that you can do anything you want so you can make it a crazy as you want.bad point is that people can take it a bit too much they will take it too far and people won't really care for it and will forget about it.

documentary- gives more information about the product or what they are advertising

These types of adverts give information about the product so the viewer would have a better understanding about the product. They will use professional people to talk about the product so people will trust the advert. For example the Sensodyne advert uses a dentist because the advert is about toothpaste so a dentist will know more of what is good for your teeth. good point is that it gives people more idea about what they are showing in the advert
bad point is that it will get boring

series- its a advert that is like a tv show e.g. BT advert

These types of adverts are good because the viewer gets to know the people in the advert and may want to know what is going to happen next as its like telling them a story of these people for example the bt advert shows a family and one of their children is leaving home and moving into a apartment with 2 other people. good point you want to find out what happens next. bad point is that it will get boring after a while

Hi and welcome to my wonderful blog of advertising
